I’ve spent the past few hours digging through the endless themes that are currently out there. In the early days of WordPress there were about a dozen themes that were decent out of the hundred themes available. Now there are a few dozen decent themes out of the millions that seem available. My numbers may be a bit exaggerated, but you know what I mean.
Will the theme I choose end up influencing the content I throw up? It shouldn’t (in theory), but my mind is already wandering on that fact. By choosing a “news” theme will I end up doing more news-ish stuff? If I go with a traditional straight down blog will I just post occasional snippets? Or what about a photo-based blog?
Categories vs. tags is another issue I’m thinking of. In the old WP days you had categories and nothing more. Now the confusion has increased with tags. Some say categories are like the table of contents in a book and tags are the index. Do I have to come up with my table of contents right away? It isn’t easy trying to write an outline (or develop a table of contents) until you have lots of things written – at least in my experience. I’m not yet sure what I want to write.
I decided to go with a “fresh” look with a lot of orange floating around called Tropicala. I trimmed one of my photos to use as the main image at the top. We’ll see how I feel about it in the next few months.
Now…what category should this go under? What tags? Why do I even think about such things?
